English As A Second Language
Classes are open to all students who are interested in learning to speak, read and write English. Students are placed according to the results of appraisal tests and are enrolled in beginning, intermediate or advanced classes.
English As A Second Language Beginning ESL/Pre-Literacy
This course is designed to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for students at beginning and pre-literacy levels. Emphasis is on developing the ability to listen and understand.

English As A Second Language Multi Level ESL/Beginning/Intermediate Low
Student will earn to listen, speak, read and write in English at a beginning through intermediate low level. Students will gain skills to interact in social and cultural situations and increase ability to handle currency and change. Grammar and vocabulary are incorporated in dialogues, stories, paragraphs and question/answer interaction throughout the class at the appropriate level.
English As A Second Language Multi Level ESL/Intermediate High/Advanced
In this multi-level class, with an emphasis on fluency and communication, students will be encouraged to self-monitor and correct when using basic grammar and communication skills in formal and informal settings.
English As A Second Language Intermediate Low ESL
This course is taught with an emphasis on fluency and communication. Instructors will begin to encourage students to self-check and correct when using basic grammatical structures.
English As A Second Language Intermediate ESL/High
The emphasis is on fluency and communication. Student self-monitor in formal and informal situations which require communication.
English As A Second Language Multi Level ESL/ Citizenship Preparation
This course focuses on the skills or competencies that adults living in the United States must use on a daily basis. Students develop language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in the context of real life situations. This course prepares students for the Citizenship Examination. Prerequisite: Score 196 on CASAS or Level 3 ESL.
English As A Second Language Advanced ESL
This course is structured to provide authentic communication experiences in order to increase the confidence of students approaching fluency in their English Language skills.
English As A Second Language/Contextualized Learning
This companion course (Automotive Service, Barbering, Cosmetology, Electrician, Food Service & Hospitality, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician) emphasizes language skill development for transitioning successfully to employment. Practice targets language proficiency common in the workforce. Students will gain practice in situations like appointments, client interactions, understanding directions, procedure and techniques.
