Accelerated Learning to Facilitate Career Pathways
Dates: March 3 – March 30, 2025
This course will introduce participants to a wide variety of strategies for both program and classroom that move students towards their career goals in the most efficient way possible. Agencies are encouraged to register as a team of at least two members but may include up to four members. An assumption behind this team approach is that that program changes have to be implemented and led by administrators but cannot be successful without the understanding and support from teachers.

Evidence-Based Writing Instruction in the ESL Classroom
Dates: March 10 – April 6, 2025
This course helps participants improve their writing instruction for ESL students by applying 1) research-based instructional techniques, 2) protocols for analyzing students’ work, and 3) guided instructional plans.

Motivation and Persistence for the Adult Learner

This course will examine nine strategies that help learners persist and offer adult educators the opportunity to practice and internalize them. The course focuses on motivation and persistence and is relevant for teachers and instructional leaders from all content areas within adult education.

Understanding the Adult Learner
Dates: April 7 – May 4, 2025
This course examines how adults learn and the implications for adult literacy programs. It explores the unique characteristics of adult learners as well as adult motivation, needs, and self-concept and their effect on learning. The course also explores adult development and the implications for effective teaching.

Civic Engagement through Democratic Literacy (LACC)
Date: March 7, 2025
Civic Education and Democratic Literacy play a pivotal role in empowering students to become engaged and informed citizens. Individuals equipped with this knowledge understand political and civic systems, allowing them to navigate these systems effectively and contribute meaningfully to the improvement of their communities.
The goal of this CoP is to enhance the capacity of adult educators and programs to provide instruction that amplifies student perspective and voice, builds civic engagement, and dives deep into participatory approaches to democratic processes for adults including those who are developing literacy and language skills.

Universal Design for Learning: Developing Programs for Adults with Learning Disabilities (Grossmont Adult Education)
Dates: March 31—May 25, 2025
This CoP incorporates the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and introduces accommodations and modifications that support learning, self-determination, and success. This interactive community of practice offers an opportunity to discuss the challenges adult education professionals face while supporting adults with learning disabilities and share strategies and tools that work.

Motivating Learners and Implementing English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards (Turlock Adult School)
Date: April 15, 2025
It takes persistence as well as effective instruction for adult learners to significantly increase their skills to achieve their goals, whether it is in their community, workplace, or in postsecondary education. Adult educators can support learners to persist and efficiently gain relevant skills by implementing standard-based instruction and evidence-based motivation strategies. This tailored community of practice (CoP) provides an overview of the motivation strategies and introduces the English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards. The CoP will provide an opportunity for participants to plan classroom activities that incorporate the standards and motivation strategies.
