Dates: January 27 – February 23, 2025

The goals of this course are to (1) optimize instructional planning and introduce management, monitoring, and reflection; (2) share activities that incorporate these components into the English as a second language (ESL) course as a whole and into daily lessons; and (3) provide research that supports these activities as best practices.

Teaching by Design: Lesson Planning for Adult Learners

Dates: January 31 – February 9, 2025

Plan and deliver effective lessons! This course takes participants step by step through the process of lesson design and provides an opportunity to learn up-to-date strategies for planning lessons for adult learners using the WIPPEA stages, creating learning objectives. Using the information and skills taught in this course, participants will find that lesson planning becomes a quick, easy process.

Effective Teaching for Adult Educators

Dates: February 3 – March 2, 2025

This course is intended to (1)build teachers’ capacity to identify the skills and knowledge required for excellent teaching as presented in the Adult Education Teacher Competencies, (2) evaluate in which areas participants are strong and in which areas professional development could support improvement, and (3) plan for increasing effectiveness of instruction.

Civic Education and Democratic Literacy play a pivotal role in empowering students to become engaged and informed citizens. Individuals equipped with this knowledge understand political and civic systems, allowing them to navigate these systems effectively and contribute meaningfully to the improvement of their communities.  

The goal of this CoP is to enhance the capacity of adult educators and programs to provide instruction that amplifies student perspective and voice, builds civic engagement, and dives deep into participatory approaches to democratic processes for adults including those who are developing literacy and language skills.

Apply now! CALPRO Spring 2025 Integrated Education and Training (IET) Implementation Clinic

The California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO), in conjunction with the California Department of Education (CDE), is seeking applications for CALPRO’s Integrated Education and Training (IET) Implementation Clinic (the Clinic). We are seeking agency teams consisting of an IET program administrator, an English as a Second Language instructor and a Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor. There are 5 principal features of this unique online professional learning opportunity. The innovative format of the Implementation Clinic features two day-long virtual training sessions; three live, interactive online sessions; ongoing online discussions, and completion of a capstone project and presentation of the project at the second day-long session. CALPRO is pleased to announce IET clinic participating teams will now have the support of an IET implementation coach to support you for one year upon completion of the IET clinic. Applications must be received by February 6, 2025.
