The event came to life through a collaboration between Jones Middle School Principal Caroline Lau and BPACE Director Dr. Veronica Valenzuela, who both recognized the importance of giving secondary students an early view to hands-on learning and the career pathways available within the District.
The immersive tour began at the Performing Arts Center, where eighth grade students were greeted by BPACE administrators and guided through the state-of-the-art facility before visiting classrooms for demonstrations in HVAC, Electrician Training, Pharmacy Technician, Personal Care Aide, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Barbering, and more.
As a surprise finale, the students were transported to BPACE’s Baldwin Park High School campus for an in-depth look at the Automotive Technology program. There, they observed students working on a live vehicle and explored the Culinary Arts kitchen, where they enjoyed a gourmet lunch in the sunny courtyard featuring handmade sandwiches, house-made chips, and cookies prepared and served by Culinary Arts students.
BPACE Director Dr. Veronica Valenzuela said the event marked the first time the school hosted a tour for middle school students. “We were delighted to welcome our future generation of industry leaders and give them a glimpse into all that’s possible through our programs,” Valenzuela said.
Throughout the day, students rotated in four groups led by BPACE administrators, exploring classrooms, engaging with instructors, and witnessing live demonstrations. The event concluded with a lunch celebration filled with sunshine, teamwork, and inspiration for the next generation of career-minded learners.
