hello like to talk about the Declaration of Independence as you probably know this was written originally by Thomas Jefferson sitting in a row with John Adams and Benjamin Franklin and they were trying to establish the independence of the colonies the 13 colonies from England England had its troops in America and and they said I could come into your house and and take just take over your life basically and the colonists the early settlers most of them from England were really tired of the British and Thomas Jefferson wrote this very long letter to King George of England breaking away from England this was the revolution Revolutionary War so again in the room with Thomas while he was riding this and editing that was also John Adams who was the second president United States and Benjamin Franklin who is not a president but he was later he was an ambassador to France and he was also a great inventor and newspaperman thinker General anyway but Thomas Jefferson wrote most of the text of this now I'll just hold up a copy of this if you would have come then coming to class you were saved a copy already and it says we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable right that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness Thomas Jefferson 1776 and when I was in the sixth grade my teacher had a son memorize this and actually I think memorizing stuff is actually a really good way to reinforce The rhythms of English and I want to show you some of the English rhythms words that we have now we're counting on certain words for counting the syllables and the accent okay for example this among this word among has two syllables okay but the accent is on the second syllable so with a rubber band for practice we would go among to that they have somebody comes up to you and they say this word it's like that doesn't sound right at all it's a preposition among among okay and anyway so we know that doesn't sound right a man so it. That's the musical rhythm in the language of short long a month and also in Die Hard in doubt to that in. and another one that is the same Rhythm syllables two syllables and the accent on the second syllable stress is on the second syllable Pursuit Pursuit Pursuit so a man stay with me a man endowed endowed C and pursuit Pursuit we have a lot the weather words in our language that are are what we call two two words for sample garage or massage or Boutique many of these words are probably from French.. Like shut French work so those are the two two words among endowed and pursuit they using rubber band like this really helps you feel the language and you might even the using your hand cuz you feel it so much being able to talk in English and use your hands a month endowed Pursuit say so you're using your body language you're actually feeling the Rhythm the strong accent of the language some languages don't have this to English is a very strongly accented language okay now we have some to 1 words for example equal April see that so if I if I say equal it doesn't sound right equal equal equal C so the first syllable equal equal even if you don't have your rubber band with you you can just imagine feeling so you need to practice with these adverse later on you might not need them so equal a quart I want to feel that even if you don't have the rubber band with you but gets a nice fat rubber band not too big okay equal another 1/3 3rd and Thomas cuz we're talking about Thomas Jefferson Thomas know Spanish is okay that would be different put an English Tom Tom and set it to one word so equal and certain and Thomas now later we may talk about words like certain if you're going if I'm going slow I will say surgeon and if I'm using this word life instead of saying certain or certainly I would say sometimes I would say certain and most most people with what we call a colossal stop and its sacred like certain certain and that don't worry about that now okay it's just more of an advanced skill that we did kind of a trick that how do people do when they're talking with certain or certain okay equal to one certain or certain and Thomas then we have a lot of 31 words in here like evident everything she this is just like words like Mexico or my home state Florida Florida or Germany to see got three syllables you know so evident 1-2-3 evident you can tap on the table have a table or something added Liberty happiness Jefferson c-123 but the first ones one is actually stronger one two three one two three one two three evident evident let's try the next one liberty liberty and happiness happiness Angie not if you're not sure about 1 let's see example if we say happiness is when I don't I can't hear it I don't know where the accident would be well you try What happiness a quantity that sounds pretty good let's try it on the second syllable happiness that doesn't sound good happiness I don't like it or right on the third syllable happy happiness that's weird right so this one sounds best with three one happiness happiness evident Liberty happiness Jefferson okay I'm the last one that I want to show you here is the 3/2 Rhythm created created this is a verb past tense verb okay and also Creator creator that talkin about God talking about okay the Supreme Being in the universe okay endowed by their creator endowed this word words you might need to look up on your phone look look him up Pursuit means to go after something invalid is like a gift that's that is given to someone equal things are equal you talking about equal rights companion us very important in our democracy isn't it equal certain that's a very specific taking out some certain rights Thomas of course has a name evident evident means very clear it should be clear to be evident we have other words from the courtroom Like Heaven by cunita if you're going to go to trial you need to have evidence and something but this is our adjectives evident and live or Kayla talking about in Spanish leader car right this would be like Frida K happiness we all know what that is being happy state of being happy created means make it to May to create things to make but that means made made by God create created and creator of course review these again the two two words are among endowed Pursuit trying to get an endowed Pursuit can I try to remember those the two one words are equal certain and Thomas l-31 words are evident and Liberty happiness Jefferson three two words are created Creator to the street to where to have a lot of boats in English for example of tobacco or banana or fridge actor who have a lot of those anyway so when you're memorizing this I think it's good to do one sentence at a time for example we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal sync to look at that first one we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal okay that's written with a, there but let's just consider that kind of like a sentence or it's just a phrase that that holds together very well and it's easy to remember say it with me we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal okay so you can just walk we hold these truths to be self-evident try without looking at your paper okay we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal okay that's not too bad we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal. I'm glad that I learned it so many years. Okay got to catch this with me you know throughout most of my life because it and in the reason I'm glad is because it it strengthens my feel for the English language saying recited this is called recycling driving poetry or reciting wise sayings famous quotation he's a really good for you okay I think people don't do enough reciting these days okay when white people do or say is the Tie remember the words to your favorite song So remembering words to songs has the same skill and is Regis speaking it okay so we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal okay now I'd like to go to the last part because it's pretty easy to okay the last part of it says that these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness try it again that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness you can say that many times many times that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness okay now so we got the first one we had hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal probably need to say that maybe about 50 times or so okay just so you we hope that you get that we hold these to be self-evident that all men are created equal one more time we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal okay now the last part that the see what is that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness again that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness now you may notice that whenever I have a, in here I take a we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal take a breath that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness Thomas Jefferson 1776 so you have to remember to breathe this brings us to the the middle portion of vest which is really a bit-part okay it's a bit difficult but I've had many Beginnings to master that so it's it's not that big a deal to the big problem is that one word that one crazy word that Thomas Jefferson use alienable oh my goodness unalienable now the whole thing has six syllable that we're not worried about that we're going to break it apart let's just try this okay we're just going to do and that's by itself with parts and really focus on is like a 3-1 word alien alien my markers squeaky is a lien to that alien that we would say that that's a 3-1 play one alien okay with we see movies about Space Invaders people coming taking over the Earth from from outer space of these are aliens space aliens okay so alien of old a b l e an ending we call him to those are suffixes a suffix is an ending special ending we have other words like comfortable or uncomfortable many many words with a b l e n and also many words with at the beginning this is to all the prefix prefix before before the main word and suffix okay now I wish that Thomas a person were still alive today then I could call him up on the phone and I can say hey, can you please change that word that's too weird for people to try to remember that sorry to say he was our third president of the United States and Thomas is no longer with us on this Earth that his word stays in there because this is a historical document okay we can't change it at one time I thought about well maybe I should try to change it to Human Rights but really it's not doing it justice because this is a historical document we need to say it correctly so just take your time graduate you can learn to say this word so it's unavailing of little alien of all the main part of it is alien 12312 just have fun at the beginning and a bowl on the end alien able to take it slow unalienable later you will get faster with it says it the middle part of this one is harder to memorize maybe they that they are a hold it up closer that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable alienable rights that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights okay so that one is a little bit harder and it to take longer to memorize but eventually you should be able to say the whole thing now the last part is pretty easy Thomas Jefferson so you got to one word and then you have Jefferson write Thomas Jefferson the last part the number 1776....... one two three one two three one thinking about it in musical terms it's like two triplets and then another note after that one two three one two three one two seventeen 7600k Thomas there's a 2-1 word Thomas Jefferson that's one two three thing and then we got to 1776 Berry musical. We set with me okay everybody from the beginning everybody and you can read it. You don't have to have it memorized yet okay but take your time memorize it piece-by-piece first piece the last piece and then later the Middle Kingdom Here we go we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and you can feel these these strong accents right there know who is it by Thomas Jefferson 1776 so that's the year if you brought that and that's the year that we declare our independence from England and King George was not happy being sent lots of soldiers and we fought you know for I don't know maybe four years or so and then before we became a free country anyway this is just a I introduced you took to type in Declaration of Independence into Google and you can find images images you can buy pictures of the Declaration of Independence and you can also find the text text Declaration of Independence and then text text and it did you give you all the words and you'll see tour beginning this is what we've got here cuz it goes on and on and on there's a lot of Thomas Jefferson had to say to King George okay let's do it one more time we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable write that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness Thomas Jefferson 1776 so after you say little part of the Declaration you wait like one second and then you say Thomas Jefferson 1776 now the great thing about learning online and with videos and streaming issues you can back it up you can go back and you can practice with me or you can hear this whole lesson again I'm so happy to be able to share this with you today it's been powerful for me really and I I feel strongly that this will help you and getting a feel for speaking English okay one more time let's just hold it let me just hold it up so you can save do the words in case you misplaced your paper okay say it with me here we go we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness Thomas Jefferson 1776 there you go and there's there's other things in there that you might want to pay attention to your r's make sure you're saying your arms correctly per per hour to inches per super and also certain that you're okay it's not fair paying or anything certain soap / Pursuit and certain and Liberty and Jeff Peterson is that half Adamson Heatherstone or anything like that it's Jeff soon so that's another sound we'll talk about it later create this Earth or something when used with teacher Burr Oak a girl so learn to say this urge sound okay thank you so much for your attention all right see you later
